Is Venice is sinking?

Venice-my dream destination since I read a book by James Hadley Chase almost 35 years before.
Water has got a great power of attraction-isn't so?

Now, is Venice sinking? Doe people believe in it?

If people believe it, it is not based on facts says "Fabio Carrera" who is of course a native of Venice and also a professor of urban studies and planning at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Massachusetts.

He says that the land is not losing its ground which means the land is not losing its elevation. He further says that from around 1900 up until the 1970s — Venice did dip deeper into the water, by nearly five inches, because the aquifer beneath it was being drained to provide water to the mainland.

But was any action taken at that time? Is it still vulnerable?
