Google goes deep into the ocean.

Google Earth reveals deep ocean floor which is supposed to larger than North America. If you care to dive deep into the ocean without actually getting wet, you can use your computer.

This fantastic scientific experience is made possible because of a colloboration between Google and oceanographers at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

Dive virtually and you can spot the following:
* Hudson Canyon off New York City,
* Lamont seamounts in the Pacific
* Three thousand meter high Mendocino Ridge off the US Pacific Coast

Even while reading this news in New Scientist, I am amazed at the possibility of more virtual exploration of the planet Earth.

Thank you Google!
