Blood drinking monkey?

When it comes to ancient tales and folklore, I think I would rate Japanese folklore second and the first rank goes of course to Indian mythological stories.

I met a Japanese lady once who recounted fantastic information about Japanese folklore and all the supernatural beings that are bizarre and unheard of.

Of the myriad creatures mentioned in the Japanese folklore, Kappa (see image) deserves another look. Kappa is believed to be a water spirit. It is also known as water monkey.

The ancient Japanese believed that the Kappa had a sort of water storage pouch in its head. Its contradictory eating habits are:
* It loves to drink blood
* It likes to eat cucumber
