Corian can be categorized under 'Building Materials' and is being manufactured by DuPont. It is a sort of solid surface material but definitely not a stone but will appear as stone. DuPont says that Corian is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate.
In India, the kitchen countertops are mostly 'Cuddappa Slabs'. If Corian is introduced in India, we can save a lot of money because Corian is probably the most cost effective solid surface.

This product is in existence since 1967 but I wonder why it has not yet come to India!

It is not important the product exists from which year. May be the importer of India think that this product do not make good business in India.
I agree with ahead Directory. May be the importer of India think that this product do not make good business in India. But you can also make a Inquiry from the organization of export and import.
