Electricity generated from Himalayan Pine needles.

Everybody who reads 'The Hindu' regularly would have seen this picture on the last page of today's issue. It was blown up on full page followed this stunning discovery about generating electricity from Himalayan Pine needles.

How much electric power can it generate?
A few kilos of this freely available pine leaves can produce electricity that is sufficient to light up 50 rural homes. (Note the word rural).

It is an alternate energy that is friendly to the environment though I foresee millions pine trees stand naked, stripped off their needle like leaves.
